Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
So, camping is fun, right? You go out to the woods, pitch a tent, set up a campfire, maybe go fishing, right? Right. But what if we told you there’s a campground in Indiana with much more than just the basics? What if we told you there’s a campground out here that’s like… the Disney World of campgrounds? Hoosiers, hold on to your hats – Caboose Lake Campground easily ranks at the top of the list of unique campgrounds in Indiana, and from the moment you arrive (okay, and when you browse their website), you’ll see the difference.
Tucked away in Remington, Indiana, is a campground unlike any other.
It's situated along the banks of a sparkling blue, spring-fed lake, and there are as many things to do at this unique camping spot as there are reflections of the sky coming off the surface of the water.
If you'd rather not bother with all the hooking-up that bringing an RV would require, and if you don't feel like pitching a tent, don't worry - there are incredible lakeside cabins and yurts available for reservation. Heck, if you so desire you can sleep in a real train caboose!
The cabins are air-conditioned and include amenities like a full kitchen complete with cooking utensils and a full shower, as well as enough beds and room to sleep up to eight people.
It's perfect for all kinds of occasions, whether you're trying to get away from it all with the family without leaving Indiana or if you're just looking for a place to have a blast all by yourself at. Either way, it works.
The views from the lakeside cabins and yurts are second to none; watching the sun come up around here is a special honor.
In the earliest hours of the morning, it's quiet at Caboose Lake. Before the other campers begin waking up and starting their days, be sure to get outside in the crisp morning air and enjoy the peace while you can.
If by some chance you grow tired of fun in the sun, the nearby town of Remington is adorable and quite worthy of a walk around.
Caboose Lake Campground is just 20 minutes away from Indiana's premier water-based amusement park, Indiana Beach. There are also things to do in Remington like browse local shops, pay a visit to a local wolf sanctuary, and much more.
Perhaps the best news of all is that Caboose Lake Campground is open all year.
Come in the summer for the water-based fun, and come back in the fall for incredible foliage displays. A wintertime visit to one of the yurts or cabins is sure to be a ridiculously cozy time, too.
