Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Delaware book lovers have every reason to be excited: the state is great for readers, with tens of dozens of bookstores scattered all over. There are some that certainly stand out above the others, though. The bookstore we’re bringing to you today might not look like much on the outside, but believe us when we tell you that it’s definitely probably the most epic bookstore in Delaware. It might be only a single story in a cute barn-like little red building seemingly in the middle of nowhere, but there’s no other place on earth like it.
There are so many books here that that's what we're going to focus on, picture-wise.
Now, we don't know about you, but we kind of hyperventilated a little when we heard about that, and looking at the hundreds of photos of the interior on their social media doesn't even do it justice. The bookstore that most Delawareans think of when they think "huge bookstore" is our other favorite, the incomparable Browseabout Books. They've got around 35,000 titles, so it would seem that Dollar Book Shuffle has them beat in the sheer numbers department - though both establishments are seriously wonderful and both deserve all the love you can give them.
And have we mentioned the service? Every single person working at the Dollar Book Shuffle is kind, well-read, and loves reading just as much as we do. You'll find yourself coming back again and again not only for the books (and their ridiculously incredible pricing) but for the company and conversation.
Lovers of music will be happy to learn that they sell records, too, so you should also stop in and peruse the selection.
Make sure to give yourself a few hours, no matter what it is you're looking for; a real expedition of the place would probably take several days, but you can definitely knock a decent chunk out in just one. Not that we'd totally spend a whole day at a bookstore or anything...
…but seriously, if you’re looking for your next favorite epic bookstore in Delaware, this might just be it. At the time of this writing, they’re open three glorious days a week. On Fridays and Saturdays, they’re open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sundays, they’re open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Everything is, quite seriously just one dollar – so grab a $20 from the ATM and see how many books you can fit into your arms all at once. Make sure to check out their website for the most up-to-date hours and inventory info!
