One of the many great things about Nebraskans is that we all have home-state and hometown pride. We’re fiercely loyal to the places we love and we aren’t afraid to tell everyone why our hometown is the best. These places were compiled from studies that ranked Nebraska towns and cities on a variety of criteria including cost of living, crime rate, employment rate, and school ratings. Factors like median income, median home value, and access to amenities such as grocery stores, retail shopping, and restaurants also figured into the rankings.
This Omaha suburb has made frequent appearances on the best places to live in the U.S. It boasts low crime, high graduation rates, and low cost of living.
Gretna enjoys a prime location between Omaha and Lincoln, giving residents easy access to amenities in both cities. The word about Gretna's top-notch schools, low unemployment, and extremely affordable cost of living must have gotten out. It happens to be the fastest growing community in the state.
With great marks in amenities, cost of living, crime, and education, it's easy to see why Seward is an ideal place to settle down. Their high school graduation rate is a whopping 95.5%, far higher than Nebraska's average.
Don't let this sleepy rural town's appearance fool you - there are plenty of things to keep you occupied here. Golfing, art galleries, and plenty of lovely outdoor space all contribute to the idyllic lifestyle enjoyed by residents.
This town of just under people 8,000 in Red Willow County in southern NE is full of outdoor recreation to keep residents busy. It also happens to have the only house in Nebraska designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright (pictured).
Waverly, a suburb of Lincoln, was named after Sir Walter Scott's 1814 novel of the same name. Many of the streets take their names from the book as well. There aren't a lot of amenities in town, but Waverly makes up for it in low cost of living, very low crime, and excellent public education.
Broken Bow is especially attractive to young families or retirees thanks to its very affordable housing: the median home value is $79,500, a good two-thirds less than the national average. Golfing, fishing, and swimming keep residents entertained.
This mid-sized college city is full of history and entertainment. Kearney is home to the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument (usually referred to as The Archway) and the Museum of Nebraska Art.
It would be hard to overlook this western Nebraska town for several reasons, but perhaps the most notable is its amazing scenery. Located at the base of the Scotts Bluff National Monument, the town also houses the Oregon Trail Park and Northfield Park Arboretum. Gering scored just a bit higher than the larger neighboring Scottsbluff due to its admirably low crime rates.
The Falls City public school system was recently granted $25,000 from the Monsanto Fund, giving their education quality rating a boost. In addition, Falls City has some of the most affordable real estate in Nebraska with a median home value of $64,500.
Although these towns have received high marks for their unique characteristics, we all know the truth: EVERY town is the best town in Nebraska!
