Everyone wants to live in a safe, beautiful place, and the state of Tennessee has small towns and moderately sized cities that provide the peace of mind families are seeking. Safewise recently released the 20 safest cities to live in here in the Volunteer State, and we have to say: we agree. We’ve included the top ten below, as well as a small description as to where the town is located and why you may want to call it your own. Of all the cities in all the world, these 10 may be the best to lay your head. Although, we must note: Tennessee has seen a three-year trend of falling crime rates overall, so you should feel nice and safe here in the Volunteer State!
Church Hill, Tennessee can be found on the beautiful northeast side of the state. It's best known for being located just a few minutes from multiple lakes, and it's been found the safest city in Tennessee for the past two years. The Hawkins County town is home to almost 7,000 people and had no violent crimes reported last year and only 10 property crimes.
Signal Mountain is located just outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and of the almost 9,000 inhabitants the violent crime rate was a mere 0.5%. With a 4.5% property crime rate, we'd say you're safe to hike the trails of the city without a care in the world.
Mount Carmel is a bit smaller than most of our cities, with only 5,000 inhabitants calling the small town home and a median income of $49,708. The violent crime rate is roughly 0.4% and the property crime rate is 5.5%, which earns this Tennessee city a spot on the list.
Oakland was established here in Tennessee in the year 1830 and it has made a name for itself as one of the safest towns on the western side of the state. At only 35 miles from Memphis, you may be surprised that the town of over 8,000 has a violent crime rate of only 0.1% and a property crime rate that's just 7.8%.
There are fewer than 5,000 people who call the town of Whiteville, found just beyond Somerville and Bolivar and right on the edge of the Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge, home. A median income of $30,469 keeps the city's population happy and healthy, with a violent crime rate of 0.9% and a property crime rate of 5.2%.
Camden has a gnarly history, most often known as the location where Patsy Cline's plane crashed in 1963. However, we like to think of the city as one located on Kentucky Lake, one of the largest manmade lakes on the globe. It also has a violent crime rate of only 0.6% and a property crime rate of 8.7% with a population of 3,573 people.
Pleasant View can be found in Cheatham County, Tennessee, and it's considered not only one of the best places to live in Tennessee but also one of the most affordable. The violent crime rate was 0% most recently, and the property crime rate 11.3%.
Brentwood is known as a wealthy suburb of Nashville, Tennessee, and has some of the highest real estate prices in the state. Still, those high housing costs don't keep the city from being so very safe! The violent crime rate, even just outside of the big city of Nashville, is only 0.9% and the property crime rate is 8.7%, earning Brentwood the #8 spot on the Safewise list.
Loudon is a darling, oft-overlooked town located just outside of Lenoir City in Tennessee's Knoxville area. It's safe and beautiful, with a violent crime rate of only 0.9% and a property crime rate of 8.9%.
Last but not least, the town of Atoka, home to only 10,000 folks, rounds out the Safewise study at #10. The west Tennessee town is only 30 miles from the Memphis metropolis and has a violent crime rate of only 1.3% and a property crime rate of 7%.
