Shenandoah National Park is filled with mountain trails, ranging from mild to downright strenuous. Each offers a unique perspective of the famous Blue Ridge Mountains, and truly, there’s no wrong decision when it comes to selecting a trail in Shenandoah. That being said, there’s one hike that’s become a clear favorite among locals and visitors alike. Measuring just 1.5 miles, Stony Man Mountain Trail is relatively easy, quick, and showcases endless mountain views.
Views abound in Shenandoah National Park, and there are few places where they can be enjoyed so freely as they are from the summit of Stony Man.
From the Stony Man Parking Area (Milepost 41.7 on Skyline Drive), you'll follow the Appalachian Trail to the trail marker. From that point, you'll follow the blue-blazed trail to the summit.
Before long, you'll have reached the summit, an expansive view of the Shenandoah Valley. Some claim this is the very best view in the entire park, and it's hard to disagree.
Hikers should note that pets are not currently permitted on this trail.
