Here in Nevada, we’re proud to be home to wide-open spaces filled with pristine, untouched natural beauty. You certainly won’t find a shortage of natural landscapes in our beautiful state. However, a visit to Basin and Range National Monument makes for an especially memorable adventure no matter what type of adventure you’re into. As one of the state’s largest national monuments, you’ll simply never get sick of exploring this breathtaking landscape and the amazing geologic and cultural history it contains.
Described as "one of the emptiest spaces in a state famous for its emptiness", there's no better way to experience the beauty of Nevada than with a visit to Basin and Range National Monument.
Spanning a whopping 704,000 acres, the massive swath of land is home to otherworldly rock formations, cultural and geologic history, rich plant life, and all types of desert wildlife. If you're looking for unbridled adventure, you'll find it here.
Tucked away in a region of southeastern Nevada, Basin and Range National Monument is always open to visitors. The monument is protected by the Nevada Bureau of Land Management and admission and camping are completely free and available to all.
Basin and Range was only the second national monument to be created in Nevada when it was proclaimed so by President Barack Obama under the Antiquities Act. Before then, Senator Harry Reid and Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada worked hard to protect this incredible area through legislation.
The pristine setting is a great example of what nature is like when it's left alone. It also makes for a great escape when you feel like getting away from the hustle. Hiking, mountain biking, camping, stargazing, and off-roading are all popular activities within the monument.
In addition to the remarkable flora and fauna, Basin and Range is a reminder of the rich cultural history that's existed here for millennia. Look closely for the countless examples of indigenous and Native American rock art that's approximately 4,000 years old.
It's impossible to see all of this breathtaking landscape in one day, so count on visiting Basin and Range again and again to enjoy its endless beauty. After all, this is the type of destination in Nevada that we'll never get tired of exploring!
