Most People Aren't Aware That This Amazing Phenomenon Is Hiding Right Here In Nevada

If you’re interested in visiting Nevada’s coolest attraction, you can forget about the world famous Las Vegas Strip, or the ever-so-popular Area 51. There’s another attraction in the Silver State gaining attention from residents and tourists, even though many still aren’t aware it exists. This attraction is Fly Ranch Geyser, better known as Fly Geyser.
Fly Geyser is a man-made geothermal geyser that’s located on the private Fly Ranch in Washoe County, which is approximately 20 miles north of Gerlach. Including the mound it sits on, Fly Geyser measures about 5 feet high by 12 feet wide. The height of its water eruption also measures about 5 feet.
Fly Geyser was accidentally created in 1964 during the drilling of a geothermal test well. The well was either plugged incorrectly or left uncapped. Because of this, hot water continues to shoot from the well hole. This causes calcium carbonate deposits to form. The green and reddish coloring of the geyser is due to thermophilic algae.
Without a doubt, Fly Geyser is one of the most beautiful sights in Nevada and definitely a must visit. Keep in mind, Fly Geyser sits on private property and is a no trespassing zone. However, the owners of the property will normally be happy to take you to see the geyser if you ask. Fly Geyser can also be seen from the road.
