Staying cool doesn’t take too much effort in Missouri. Even just running through the kids’ sprinkler can leave us chilled in the middle of a scorching day. When you’re up for an adventure that includes a beautiful swimming hole this summer, follow the Three Creeks Trail in Missouri. (It’s also pretty during the other seasons.)

Expect somewhat of a workout when you venture out on the 4.3-mile Three Creek Trail, tucked in the Three Creeks Conservation Area in Columbia.

The moderately-rated trail, however, is drenched with beauty - like colorful wildflowers swaying in the summer breeze - and is dotted with small swimming holes.

You can bring your pup along (just keep him leashed), but the trail isn't really conducive to strollers or wheelchairs due to its somewhat rough terrain. (Watch out for large rocks and roots.)

If you're visiting after a rainfall or when the ground is wet, you'll probably want to wear a pair of hiking boots. The trail can get extremely muddy at times.
