Short of driving all the way to the coast in North Carolina, crystal clear water and white sand can be found in abundance in the Tar Heel State along the shores of the gorgeous White Lake near Elizabethtown. White Lake is also a town on its own; it’s a residential resort community, in fact. It’s been a bona fide resort since 1901, when the first business is on record as opening in White Lake. It incorporated in 1951 and has been the summer home and vacation spot of countless families ever since.
When it comes to accommodations in White Lake, there are scores of places to stay.
Known both for its crystal clear water and white sandy bottom, White Lake is a magical spot in which to hunker for a family vacation.
Generations of North Carolina's children have spent many summers along the white sandy shores of White Lake — and it's no wonder why. It's simply breathtaking here.
And there's one locale along the lake's shores that's worth checking out: Camp Clearwater.
This year-round campground and resort is enormous; so big, in fact, that its population is equivalent to that of a small city in North Carolina.
With well over 500 camping spots alone, plus park cabins and manufactured homes, this campground is easily the largest in the state.
it's worth it to note that only about 100 of the camp sites are reserved for overnight guests. The remaining sites are allotted to year-round and season-wide campers. But that just means planning farther in advance to ensure you get one of the overnight campsites for your trip.
Camp Clearwater encompasses 1,100 acres along the shores of White Lake and offers many amenities, including the beautiful Clearwater Chapel, which makes a beautiful attraction for any photograph.
The piers at Camp Clearwater are great for gathering, swimming, fishing, and more.
And of course, the 1,300 feet of private beachfront real estate is at the top of the list of amenities enjoyed by guests and residents alike.
White Lake sees about 200,000 tourists each summer who enjoy the stunning spoils of this natural 1,200-acre spring and rainwater-fed lake with a white sandy bottom.
