J&J Grocery and Deli is a tiny country store that's located on the backroads of Bessemer, Alabama.
When this country store was purchased by Joe and Juanita McClanahan in the early 1970s, it mostly sold fresh meats and livestock feed. Because it was the only store of its kind in the area at the time, the McClanahans began selling everything from groceries to hardware to gasoline.
In the late 1980s, Juanita McClanahan began making and selling hamburgers, which were (and still are) shaped by hand and grilled to perfection on a flat top grill. Today, the store is owned by Allison Coker.
The burgers served at J&J Grocery and Deli are made to order and include all of the traditional toppings such as lettuce, tomato, pickle, mustard, ketchup, etc. You can also add cheese and bacon to your burger for an extra cost.
After your burger is cooked, you can either take it along with you or dine inside. Most people opt to dine inside so they can chat with the other community members.
