One of the best things about Connecticut is the high value placed on its history and its community. Instead of making way for the new by tearing down the old, Connecticut merges the two in a way that is enchanting and keeps us grounded to our roots. One example is the Bridgewater Village Store and Bistro.
The Village Store started in 1899 when Clarence Thompson's mail-order business outgrew its previous location.
Started in 1866, Thompson's mail-order business sold toys, trinkets, costume jewelry, and charms. His advertising model was an inspiration to Sears and other future mail-order businesses.
Throughout the years, the shop played host to different businesses after Thompson sold his factory in 1927.
From 1927-1937 it was known as Pete's Emporium and was a sundries shop and soda fountain where customers were about to buy soda for 5 cents. At this time, the shop was wired with electricity and indoor plumbing was added. It was known as Country Store from 1937-1954 and Village Store from 1954-1983.
After changing hands and a decline of business, the little house that could was reopened as the current Village Store and Bistro in 2016.
After a slight renovation and adding a few improvements, including dinner five nights a week, The Village Store is again a gathering place for the local community.
Not only will you love the store and selection offered at the deli, but the bistro has a whole lot to offer.
Enjoy meals ranging from gourmet to a burger. You will also want to try their mouth-watering pizzas.
The Village Store is committed to contributing to the community.
When you enjoy a meal at the bistro, you can count on the freshest local produce and seasonal ingredients.
Desserts are scrumptious, filling, and made fresh. From pies and cheesecakes to brownies and flourless tortes.
It's worth saving a little extra room to enjoy indulging in these tantalizing desserts.
