If you’re up for some fantastic hikes this summer, then the Eska Falls trail in Alaska should be a go-to the next time you want to explore Alaska’s beautiful countryside. This hike may be a little challenging, but it’s so stunning that you will be captivated by the views around you. Pack your gear and head to Sutton to make your way to the beautiful Eska Falls.
If you’re looking for a hike out to a stunning waterfall here in Alaska, the Eska Falls Trail has it all.
Beautiful countryside, soaring mountains, and plenty of wildlife to spot while you’re out hiking. This is a fantastic hike to do if you want to see the best that Alaska has to offer.
The trail is rated “hard,” but many hikers who’ve completed it agree that it’s not technically difficult.
It is long, clocking in just over 10 miles out and back, but the elevation gain of 2,339 feet is gradual, and spread out over the trail. You’ll find the gradual ascent makes for a pleasant hike.

Block out anywhere from 4.5 hours if you’re a fast hiker, or closer to seven if you like to take your time.
Keep your eyes peeled for ATVs, as they like to use the trail as well. And dress in layers, as the weather can change rapidly and you don’t want to get caught out without any warm clothes or rain gear.
Once you reach the falls, this is the perfect time to sit for a moment and rest.
The road is just too rough to do without it. If you don’t have 4WD, you can park about 2 miles away from the trailhead, but that would add four additional miles onto your hike.
This is a great hike to do, summer, winter, and fall.
