If you lived through the ’80s and ’90s, you may be psyched about the recent blast of nostalgia for those fun-filled decades. From TV shows to movies to memes, the days of Saved By The Bell and cassette tapes are back in full force. Boombox Social is a totally tubular bar and arcade where adults can live like kids again for a few hours. Its retro styling is so slammin’ that you may just find yourself bringing out your favorite ’80s-’90s slang.
Boombox Social opened in 2020, right in the midst of the pandemic. This fly concept was the newest venture of Kinkaider Brewing, a Lincoln brewery that turns out some of Nebraska's favorite beers.
Nostalgia for the '80s and '90s has been exploding, and Boombox Social has really made a name for itself catering to that sentiment. All around the arcade bar, you'll see cheeky references to the past along with a slick modern aesthetic. A killer retro soundtrack rounds out the experience. The result is a totally rad place to spend some time away from adulting.
The arcade itself is upstairs and features a variety of games you knew and loved as a kid...or, for the younger crowd, games that you've only seen in your favorite '90s reruns. Schwing!
When was the last time you played a friendly game of skeeball or foosball? The upstairs is all about providing a social, physical element for visitors - especially those who tend to get a little competitive when they drink. Grab your besties and get jiggy with it!
The main level of Boombox Social is dedicated to the bar, seating, and a space for live music acts and DJs. You'll want to bring your late-night appetite because you'll find some seriously legit bar food here.
Walk up to the faux food truck - decked out in sweet '90s style, of course - to order your food. While food trucks didn't become a big thing until the aughties, this bodacious truck fits right in. There's a whole kitchen behind the Boombox Eats truck where your food is made with care.
The menu contains mostly late-night bar food, which is the perfect accompaniment to the incredible selection of cocktails and beers offered at the bar. Pictured below are the totchoes: crispy tater tots loaded with nacho toppings.
The pizza is a customer favorite, and with creative names like Uuueeeggh?!?! (a reference to Home Improvement), The Kelly KaPOWski, and Yippee Ki Yay Mother Clucker, you know it's got to be good. Mozzarella sticks, pretzel bites, wings, and cheesy breadsticks are some other highlights from Boombox Eats.
Brunch is served every Sunday and you won't want to miss the specials, which range from morning cocktails to waffles, breakfast burritos, and this incredible breakfast pizza. It's said to be some of the best breakfast pizza in the state, but you'll have to decide for yourself.
After you grab your food, you can set up at one of the tables or, if you're lucky, catch an open spot at the counter-style window seating. In nice weather, the large windows open up to the street and customers can sit on the indoor and outdoor sides.
Outdoor seating is also available. This patio is all that and a bag of chips, are we right? If anyone says otherwise, you can just tell them to talk to the hand.
As you can see, Boombox Social is just like every other arcade bar…NOT! You can visit every day of the week from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Check out its Facebook page for more info. Be excellent to each other and party on, dudes!
