Some people may have the idea New Jersey doesn’t have good hiking trails, but we know that’s complete nonsense. There is a whole range of hikes you can take in New Jersey, from gentle beachside strolls to seriously thrilling mountain ascents. If you’re looking for something more difficult and more exciting, we have just the trail for you.
Long Loop via Peanut Leap Cascade, Giant Stairs, and Closter Dock is not a trail for the faint of heart — but if you're willing to conquer it, you'll be rewarded.
First off, what makes it so tough? Well, the loop trail is a little over 10 miles long and some parts are quite steep.
You'll also have to climb stairs (there is a reason why there is a section called "The Giant Stairs") and be prepared for rock scrambling.
Rock scrambling can be difficult if you're not used to it, so be careful — and wear good shoes.
However, along the way, you'll enjoy a truly beautiful hike.
Watch out for a waterfall that's striking in its size and simplicity.
You'll also pass by a teeny castle!
OK, it's more of a fort and it's a legit historical site, so we probably shouldn't call it "teeny." Still, it's fun to explore it for a bit (but not too long, — seriously, it's small).
And of course, we can't forget about the views. You get some amazing ones during this hike.
Yes, that's New York City in the distance.
It's a very unique way to spot the iconic skyline!
All in all, Long Loop via Peanut Leap Cascade, Giant Stairs and Closter Dock may be a tough trail, but it's a hike you won't forget.
Just remember, the trail is best used from April until October — and seriously, wear good shoes. Rock scrambling is no joke.
