If you’ve ever found yourself searching for hikes in Wyoming and discovering that most of the treks you find are long, arduous mountain excursions, you might start to think that hiking in the Cowboy State is for those who are super fit, comfortable in the wilderness, and it might discourage you from getting outdoors. Don’t let that happen! There are enjoyable hikes for anyone here in Wyoming, and the Platte River network of trails in and around Casper is the perfect example of a hiking destination that nearly anyone can enjoy.
The community trail network in the Casper area offers an unprecedented way to travel through some of Wyoming's most beautiful scenery. The most popular trek is along the six-mile Platte River Trail, also called the Platte River Parkway.
Whether you hit the trail system with your pets and kids or just by yourself for a quiet walk or bike ride, you're sure to enjoy the endless views and trail that winds on forever.
...and in the fall, you'll notice the stunning colors of the best fall foliage in the state. For more autumn views, continue your journey by heading towards Rotary Park on Capser Mountain, which offers a view of fall colors unlike any other in Wyoming.
In the spring and summer, the bright and vibrant colors of the warmer seasons push out gloomy and grey winter vibes. Along the trail, fun displays of art showcase Casper's community spirit. There's always something new to see!
There are miles and miles to explore along the Platte River Parkway. If you take the long Platte River Trail, you'll travel six miles along a gradual path that has minimal elevation changes.
At the highest point along the Platte River Trail, you'll be sitting at an elevation of 5,163 ft! The view from up here down along the basin is spectacular.
