Antelope Island is a popular spot for hiking, wildlife viewing, camping, and more, and it’s a great place to spend an afternoon or weekend. Most Utahns have visited at least once, but did you know that you can ride your bike to the island?
Antelope Island is one of 10 islands in the Great Salt Lake, but it's the only island most Utahns will ever visit. Its rolling hills, beaches, and view of the water beckon visitors year-round.
Visitors reach Antelope Island by crossing a seven-mile-long causeway.
It can be a pretty fun drive across the causeway. Utah doesn't have many spots like this, where you can drive on a narrow road with water on both sides...
...but during spring and months, there can be a pretty long wait to get to the entrance booth. One way to get to the island and beat the traffic is to ride your bike.
A bike ride across the causeway is even more fun than a car ride. You'll get some fresh air and see the lake up close. You'll also save some money! Admission to Antelope Island is $15 for cars, but only $3 for cyclists and pedestrians.
That's right - you can also walk across the causeway!
Once you get to the island, you can ride on the six-mile-long road that makes a loop around the island, or enjoy 20 miles of mountain bike trails. It's a great way to see parts of the island that many people won't see from their car.
The scenery on this 28,000-acre island is picturesque...
...and there's plenty of wildlife to view. You'll see mule deer, pronghorn, and bighorn sheep are common sights here.
The herd of bison on Antelope Island is one of the largest herds in the country. You'll almost certainly see at least a few during your visit.
Keep your distance from the bison and enjoy them from afar.
The hiking and biking trails on Antelope Island vary in difficulty.
Novice riders and those with kids enjoy the Lakeshore Trail, which starts at White Rock Bay Campground. It's just two miles long. More experienced riders often take the nine-mile-long White Rock Bay Loop.
The next time you visit Antelope Island, consider riding your bike across the causeway. The island is accessible year-round, and is open for visitors daily.
March through October, visit from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.; November through April, the island is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you’ve never visited Antelope Island, you should definitely make plans to visit soon. It’s one of the best places in the Beehive State to see a sunset , and the view from Frary Peak is stunning.
