This Hidden Lakeside Beach In Indiana Has Some Of The Bluest Water In The State

In the past, we’ve covered the totally underrated town of Beverly Shores, Indiana (for example, here and here), but we have yet to discuss one of the biggest reasons why the town is so underrated. Beverly Shores is home to Kemil Beach, a small hidden gem of Indiana shoreline with some of the bluest water you’ve probably ever seen. When it comes to the bluest water in Indiana, well, Kemil Beach might just be where it’s at.
Upon closer inspection of the water here, you'll notice that the reason it's so blue is that it's so perfectly clear.
The crystalline water reflects the Indiana sky, and together, the two meet in differing hues of beautiful blue. It's a sight that would calm even the stormiest of hearts, even if only for just a little while.
The soft, warm sand helps you forget that you're still landlocked in Indiana.
It's easy to lose track of time and simply allow your worries to float away in the breeze when you're spending time here. It often feels more like a Caribbean vacation spot than a lakeshore in Indiana.

The beautiful blue water goes on for as far as the eye can see, giving it the appearance of an ocean instead of a lake.
The site provides some basic amenities for guests; for example, it's open year-round and offers potable water and restrooms year-round as well. Popular activities at Kemil Beach include swimming (when it's safe - make sure there's no riptide when you visit), hiking, and fishing during the spring and summer months.
Alternatively, once you've had your fill of the bluest water in Indiana, you could hike Dunes Ridge Trail, and take in the breathtaking views of the Great Marsh it offers.
We strongly suspect, however, that you won't want to part from the water's edge. There's something about bodies of water that are clear and blue that seems to hypnotize us, drawing us in and relaxing us to our very cores.
Sunrises and sunsets over Kemil Beach are a special treat.
If you've never watched the sun set over the ocean, this is as close as it gets. Not bad for living in an inland state, we think!
During the warmest months of the year, the parking lot can fill up quickly, both from visitors to the beach and people interested in shopping around Beverly Shores.
You can call a recorded line at (219) 395-1003 for parking information to help you plan your getaway. We suggest you visit at a time during the week, though, and preferably early in the day. Though this spot isn't nearly as well-known as other places along Lake Michigan, the locals here know a glorious thing when they see it, and they visit often. Plan accordingly, especially if you'd like most of the place to yourself.
The beach is free. They ask for no parking fees, and they require no permits to fish.
The beach is open daily, all year, from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Alcohol is permitted, however, it must be consumed responsibly. Bring your pooch, too, but keep him on a leash.
If you’re on the hunt for the bluest water in Indiana, look no further; you’ve found it. Bring your camera, too, and make sure to shoot a few photos – the pure photogenic perfection that is Kemil Beach isn’t one you’ll soon forget.
