As weather in New York continues to get warmer, it’s time to start planning a good time to explore some of the area’s best beaches! Head out to Long Island, and you’ll find miles and miles of beaches to explore and collect sea shells, as well as some scenic state parks. Head down to Fire Island, and you’ll get the best of both worlds. Take a hike through Jones Beach State Park, grab a beachside lunch, and hit the beach for sunset views you won’t forget.
Along the southern coast of Long Island, around an hour east of New York City, lies Fire Island, a 31-mile long barrier island with some of the prettiest beaches in the area.
This island is a welcome escape in a secluded realm of sheer beauty, whether you want to spend a weekend enjoying a beach house or just taking a break on a road trip for a quick walk along the coast.
You might even catch some wildlife wandering the island. Wander down to the west end of the island, and you'll find Robert Moses State Park, an 875-acre park with five miles of beaches to explore and tons of wildlife to see!
For those looking to go hunting for sea shells, there are a variety of beaches to choose from: on the east end of the island, check out Ponquogue Beach, Cupsogue Beach, and Smith Point County Park.
On the west side of the island, visit Robert Moses State Park and soak in the views.
Just east of Robert Moses State Park, you'll find the Fire Island Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse on Long Island!
If you're looking to grab lunch or a drink after a long walk on the beach, head to Surf's Out or Fire Island Tap in Kismet.
There's nothing better than spending the afternoon collecting sea shells and the evening admiring one of these stunning sunsets!
You can find more information on how to plan your trip by visiting the Fire Island National Seashore website or following along on Facebook .
