Being from South Dakota is definitely a unique blessing. Being from a state with a population of less than 1 million people means that when you meet someone from another state, you are probably the first person from South Dakota they have ever met. That being said, they usually have tons of questions! These are just a few of those questions we are all tired of answering.
1. That's where Mount Rushmore is ,right?
Yes, we do live in the Mount Rushmore state, but we have a lot more to offer than that one National Monument.
2. Do you have electricity?
We definitely have electricity. And running water. And even wireless internet. We are actually pretty technologically savvy, believe it or not.
3. Is it like the movie Fargo?
Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. You’ll have to come see for yourself.
4. Do you really call it pop?
Absolutely we do. Calling it soda will earn you some weird looks around here. If you try ordering a "coke," you are definitely going to get a Coca-Cola.
5. Do you go cow tipping?
Depends on who you ask and the availability of cattle. Most of us would rather tip back a cold beer than try our hand tipping over a cow.
6. So what pro team do you even cheer for?
The beauty of not having a pro team is we get to cheer for whatever team we want. You’re sure to find a hefty amount of Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers around these parts.
7. Where is that at again?
Right under North Dakota. That seems pretty straightforward, right?
8. Don't you get bored?
In South Dakota, we know how to make our own fun. With our stunning landscape, scenic sunsets and plethora of lakes, we never run out of things to do.
9. Why would you live there?
The combination of a low unemployment rate, low crime rate and low cost of housing make South Dakota an unbeatable place to live. Top that off with the beautiful State Parks and continued small business growth and there’s nothing not to love about our state.
10. Do you actually like living in South Dakota?
You won’t find more hard-working, trustworthy or genuinely nice people anywhere else in the country. We are proud to call the state of South Dakota home.
If you’re from South Dakota you’ve probably heard these questions over and over. What other questions do non-South Dakotans ask you?
