South Carolina’s newest exclusive vacation rental is the quintessential spot for a dreamy vacation along the South Carolina coast – and even if you don’t typically splurge this much on vacation, you’ll still want to have a look! It’s known as The Turner House because it was built by Ted Turner some 40 years ago after he purchased St. Phillips Island off the coast of Beaufort.
For those who aren’t aware, media proprietor, producer, and philanthropist, Ted Turner, has an affinity for the Lowcountry of South Carolina. For years, he and Jane Fonda kept a condo in historic downtown Charleston, and for more than 40 years, the family vacationed at their exclusive home on St. Phillips Island.
The home, a spacious 3,350-square-foot oceanfront dwelling with five bedrooms and five bathrooms, sits at the mouth of a protected inlet between Pritchards Island and St. Phillips Island.
Both it and St. Phillips Island (and other amenities) were purchased in recent years by the State of South Carolina and the properties were added to the state parks, neatly adding the island and the house to adjacent Hunting Island State Park.
It has sweeping views of the Atlantic and a steady ocean breeze since it's only steps from the water.
Enjoy the full use of the island for your stay. Your booking comes with transportation by way of a boat between the mainland and the island upon arrival and departure, plus one other scheduled daylight shuttle between the two during your stay.
Other amenities include: a fishing pier, a fire pit and indoor fireplace, a pool table, beach chairs, bicycles, kayaks, golf carts (plural), hiking trails, WiFi, and a boat dock where you can dock your own boat during your stay.
The state park typically runs a couple of tour groups through the island every day. It usually involves approximately 20 people per tour group. It's not a huge deal and the tour groups do not come to the house, they only tour the ecological aspects of the barrier island.
So the Standard Rental allows the state to continue booking those tours during your stay on the island. There is a minimum five-day stay. The Standard Rental five-day stay books for $12,000, which includes a $1,000 grocery credit where you'll make the purchase online at Publix and the state park rangers will pick up and deliver your food to the house prior to your arrival.
But if you want the island all to yourself and don't want those couple of really small tour groups entering the Island while you're there, you can select the Exclusive Rental, which also includes a few more perks.
The Exclusive Rental books for $20,000 for five days and includes a $2,000 grocery credit at Publix where, again, a ranger will pick up your groceries and deliver them to the house ahead of your arrival.
This rental option affords renters exclusivity to the full island during the stay, as well as optional ranger-led programs during the stay. It also includes one pre-scheduled daylight shuttle back and forth to the mainland.
South Carolina's most exclusive vacation rental has quite a price tag, but this house and location are absolutely worth every penny! This is one vacation you're sure to treasure for years to come. Get the kids and the grand kids onboard and make it happen!
