I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Garden of the Gods Wilderness is as scenic as it gets in Illinois. This 3,300-acre preserve has some of the most fascinating sandstone rock formations, so it’s no wonder why it’s the most photographed part of the state. There are a number of trails throughout the park and the Whiskey Cave Loop Trail is one that will lead you to the numerous rocks, caves, a waterfall, and epic viewpoints of the surrounding wilderness. We must warn you, though, that this is a difficult hike and being prepared is an absolute necessity.
Would you be daring enough to do this tough hike if it meant seeing all these incredible rock formations? To view a map of the trail and to see what other hikers have to say about the Whiskey Cave Trail, visit the webpage on AllTrails.
