Hiking is one of those activities you can do almost all year-round in New Jersey, which is great news since New Jersey boasts some truly excellent hiking trails. There are all kinds of options available throughout the state, but one of our favorite out-and-back ones is the Schuber Trail through Painted Forest, a park in Ringwood, New Jersey.

What makes Schuber Trail, a moderately-rated hiking path, so enjoyable is the varied terrain you experience along the way. There are lakes, streams, ruins, and views, so you really can’t get bored. And sure, 12.7 miles might sound intimidating, but once you’re on the trail, you’ll find yourself wishing it was longer, it’s such a peaceful hike.
