Indiana can be a great place for kids to learn and evolve. 1. Signature School - Evansville
The Signature School in Evansville is an extremely successfully charter school ranked #33 in the country, according to US News. That's great news for Indiana residents! Of course, admission is limited, but it never hurts to apply for their lottery. With 100% of students taking AP exams, 94% passing those exams, and smaller than average classrooms, it's no wonder why this school is #1 in the state.
2. Herron High School - Indianapolis
Coming in second place is Herron High School in the state's capitol city. Herron is also a charter school with a 13:1 student to teacher ratio (smaller than average Indiana classrooms). Herron comes in #337 in the country and won a Gold Medal from US News for the Best High Schools in the country. 77% of graduates test as proficient in algebra and 86% test as proficient in English (well above the state's average).
3. Zionsville Community High School – Zionsville
Coming in #3 is Zionsville Community High School, which is a public school. ZCHS ranks #339 in the country, placing it just barely behind our #2 school. If you're looking for a great public school, Zionsville is where you should look. Though their class sizes are fairly large, their proficiency levels are even higher than Herron!
4. West Lafayette Jr./Sr. High School – West Lafayette
This Junior/Senior high school is another great public school option for your child. Classroom sizes are near the state average (16:1) and 84% of graduates test proficiently in algebra, while 88% test proficiently in English. West Lafayette Jr./Sr. High School ranks 380, nationally.
5. Carmel High School - Carmel
Carmel High School has a great reputation in Indiana. This public school boasts proficiency scores of 91% in English and 84% in Algebra and ranks #583 nationwide. Despite larger than average class sizes, this school is a great option if you want a public school.
6. Fishers High School - Fishers
Another top central Indiana school is Fishers High School, ranking 637 across the country. This high school tests above average in AP scores, English, and Algebra (based on the state average).
7. Westfield High School - Westfield
Ranking #644 nationally, Westfield High School is a fantastic option for those living north of Carmel and Fishers. This public school has a slightly larger than average class size, but their test scores are similar to Fishers High School.
8. Hamilton Southeastern High School – Fishers
Fishers might just be the city to live in if you're looking for the best of free education. Coming in 8th in the state and #763 in the country, Hamilton Southeastern High School has large classrooms, but test scores that all rate above the Indiana average.
9. Munster High School - Munster
Falling just behind the #8 school, Munster High School is ranked #780 in the country and has above average test scores, scoring higher in English than Algebra.
10. Bloomington High School North – Bloomington
Completing our list is school #10 in Bloomington. This public school ranks #1017 in the country, has a 15:1 student to teacher ratio and near to above average testing scores.
