A night away is always a fun and relaxing experience, but it’s even more memorable in a themed hotel room in Kentucky. If you’ve binge-watched Netflix recently, chances are you’ve come across the popular series, The Queen’s Gambit. While I may only be a few episodes in, as a Kentuckian I immediately noticed the state’s outline on the side of a police car and mention of the Bluegrass State in the first few minutes. Most of the show is set in Kentucky and the surrounding area and if you’re a fan of the show, you’ll want to book a stay in the Queen’s Gambit inspired hotel room at 21c Museum Hotel in Lexington. It’s perfectly retro, gives several nods to the show, and is bound to provide that memorable night away you’re seeking.
The 21c Museum Hotel is a unique place to stay in Lexington with modern accommodations in a historic building.
It has been rated one of the top hotels in the south and throughout the country and it makes for a great getaway spot in the heart of the Bluegrass. With 88 rooms, this boutique hotel is filled with surprises.
One surprise is that this hotel is also a world-class museum, so there's entertainment right below your hotel room.
Be sure to look for the blue penguin, appropriate for Lexington and this location's version of the penguin you'll find at all of the 21c Museum Hotels. Along with the art exhibits and a delicious restaurant, the 21c in Lexington now offers a Queen's Gambit themed room called The Harmon Room.

If you know anything about The Queen's Gambit, a popular show on Netflix, then you likely know that much of it is set in Kentucky.
Although most of the episodes were actually shot in Germany and Canada, there are plenty of mentions of the Bluegrass State both in the dialogue and in the recreated settings throughout the scenes. The show and this hotel room take you back to Kentucky in the 1960s and now you can spend the night in this modern take on a time capsule.
With a king bed and all of the hotel's typical amenities, this would make for such a fun and unique night away to escape for a bit or even to binge watch some of the episodes!
If you haven't Googled what "The Queen's Gambit" means yet (don't worry, I had to as well), it refers to an opening move in a game of chess.
Beth Harmon (hence The Harmon Room) is the star of the show and she is a master at chess, among other things. You'll find whimsical pieces of the show and the game of chess throughout the room, including the game on the ceiling and chess-themed wallpaper.
If you can't find an available night for The Harmon Room or would prefer a different experience, 21c Lexington offers 87 other beautiful rooms from which to choose.
They all have a lovely mix of modern furnishings and nods to Kentucky and along with great service and a unique atmosphere, it's easy to see why this has been named a favorite hotel in Kentucky and in the region.
If you haven’t watched The Queen’s Gambit yet, spend a weekend binge-watching and then book a stay in this themed hotel room in Kentucky. Or if chess isn’t your thing, be sure to check out the hotel’s other unique and Kentucky inspired rooms. Have you watched this show that is set in Kentucky? Would you like to stay in this room?
