Some parts of Delaware culture may seem a little odd to outsiders, but they’re sure to get us fired up. Here are a few things that First State residents may never agree on – where do you stand on the issues?
1. Is scrapple a delicious breakfast meat, or an egregious insult to food?
This topic is sure to get a little heated. Some Delawareans swear by the stuff, while others insist that it's a garbage concoction of pig parts.
2. Where should you catch a concert on your Dewey Beach trip - the Starboard, the Rusty Rudder, or maybe Bottle & Cork?
Live music and Dewey Beach go together like scrapple and eggs! Which venue is your summer go-to?
3. When is the best time to visit the beach?
Some of us love a stroll in the winter. Others wait all year for Local Summer, in September. And of course, there's always the crowd that lays out on the beach like lobsters from May through August, soaking up the sun.
4. Which of our state park ponds are the best for a day on the water?
Between Lums Pond, Killens Pond, and Trap Pond, it's typical of Delawareans to have a favorite state park and to enjoy paddling out all summer long.
5. Bay Beaches, or Ocean Beaches?
Those of us who love the "bay beach" part of Delaware culture will fiercely defend our favorite spots to swat away greenheads and rescue horseshoe crabs.
6. Who makes the best crab cakes?
Woody's in Dewey Beach is the obvious answer here...but some people continue to insist that Sambo's, Kathy's, or even Big Fish Grill have the best crabcakes around.
7. Which historic town is the most quaint?
In all of our tiny historic towns, Delaware culture and history are on display. Where would you choose to go for a quiet afternoon of exploring and learning?
8. Is it slower lower, or lower slower... and where does it begin?
Finally, the real question - where does slower lower start? Most people who grew up in the First State will tell you it begins at the canal, but there are still plenty of people who don't consider any of New Castle County to be lower... and others who insist that it's called "Lower Slower." Weird!
