Winter may not seem like the obvious time to visit the beach, but it can prove to be a truly magical experience. That’s especially true if you head to Sandbridge in Virginia Beach. It’s located on the northern end of the Outer Banks yet still technically in Virginia. The result is a less-crowded oceanfront with plenty to enjoy. If you cherish expansive ocean views and a peaceful walk on the beach, a trip to Sandbridge might be just the thing you need. So bundle up, and let’s go!
Welcome to Sandbridge Beach, a quiet stretch of oceanfront located on Virginia's southernmost coastline.
Sandbridge is often called the Outer Banks of Virginia, as it shares many characteristics of the beaches you'll find in North Carolina's Outer Banks. The Back Bay of Currituck Sound is to the west and the Atlantic Ocean is to the east.
What many visitors love about Sandbridge is the fact that it's close to Virginia Beach's most exciting attractions, such as the aquarium and Ocean Breeze Water Park, while offering much more seclusion.
If you rent one of the properties near the ocean, you can easily walk out to your own private plot of beach. This is especially true during the off-season.
At 4.5 miles in length, Sandbridge is the perfect place for a long, meandering beach walk. The Sandbridge Boardwalk is open to the public and is a wonderful place to watch the waves.
So if you don't mind bundling up and braving the winter weather, you're in for a beautiful assortment of sounds and colors when you visit Sandbridge Beach in the winter.
