Founded in 1777 by missionary John Alderson, the town of Alderson has a history it is proud to share. Step back in time to discover history through historical markers and landmarks from the earliest colonists to the Civil War and beyond.
As you visit the historic district, you'll want to stop at the Alderson Train Depot, which was added to the historic registry in 1993. Originally built in 1896 by the C&O Railway, the original wood framed building was expanded in 1929. In 1979, the station began serving Amtrak until 2014 when it became a request stop.
Since 2010, Sunset Berry Farm & Produce has been known as the home of the "sweetest strawberries.” In late spring, spend an hour or two exploring and picking your own succulent treats. If you are up for a little celebration, be sure to visit Memorial Day weekend for the annual Strawberry Festival.
The best time of year to visit is during the spring and summer months. With the highest temperatures reaching a balmy 86 degrees in July, you can enjoy a lazy afternoon sitting next to the river while reading a good book or just breathing in some good old relaxation.
Get back to nature by catching up on a little bit of bird watching and nature exploration. Or, pick up a fishing pole for a little trout fishing in the Greenbrier River. With so much natural beauty, it's easy to put all your cares behind you.
Enjoy some delicious home-style cooking without breaking a sweat. Stuart's Smokehouse and Seafood has been serving big appetites since 2005 with lip-smacking smokehouse meats and seafood platters.
Open 7 days a week, you can satisfy your hunger at 1738 Highland Trl.
When looking for the perfect balance of rest and hospitality, the Old Victorian Inn is an Alderson favorite. This comfortable, clean, and beautiful inn receives high reviews for both its ambience, as well as the helpful, friendly nature of its owner, Doris.
