Located right off I-80, Donner Summit Sno-Park is one of 19 sites located along the Sierra Nevada that boast a large area to play in the snow, all for a single vehicle fee. If you're looking for cheap and awesome family fun this winter, a visit is a must!
Towering at 7,067-feet, Donner Summit is one of the most breathtaking spots in the Sierra - and that's saying a lot. Boasting majestic views of the mountains and snow-covered pine trees, the winter scenery is nothing short of downright enchanting.
A Sno-Park permit is required for each vehicle parked at a Sno-Park site from November 1 through May 30. You can buy a permit for the day ($5) or for the season ($25.) Permits can easily be purchased online or from select vendors.
The Sno-Park at Donner Summit is definitely popular, but the remote area and the large expanse of space makes it easy to have fun without constantly bumping into other families. The park is ideal for all sorts of winter play, from cross-country skiing and snowshoeing to sledding and snowman-building.
There are quite a few hills in varying sizes at the Donner Summit Sno-Park that are perfect for sliding down. Be sure to keep an eye out for trees and other people when making your speedy descent.
Sno-Parks typically have their own parking lot and pit toilets, but other than that, few amenities are available. Be sure to bring your own sled, skis, snowman supplies, and any other equipment you may need. Of course, you'll want to dress appropriately for the weather, as well!
