Texas' Fort Worth Zoo Has Been Voted The Best Zoo In The U.S.

USA Today recently came out with a list of the best zoos in the nation, and Texas’ very own Fort Worth Zoo snagged the No. 1 spot. It’s a quintessential destination for family fun, with thousands of adorable animals that can’t wait to meet you.
Open since 1909, the Fort Worth Zoo is the oldest continuously operated zoo in Texas. It houses more than 7,000 animals, both native and exotic, many of which are endangered or threatened.
Spanning 64 acres, the zoo features 11 different exhibits, all thoughtfully designed to replicate the natural habitats of the animals who live in them. From primates to parrots to residents of the Australian Outback, you'll take a trip around the world during your visit.
Go on a safari through the African Savanna, which is home to lions, zebras, and several other grassland dwelling species. In 2018, the exhibit was renovated to include more animals and viewing platforms, which allow visitors to enjoy an array of unique perspectives.
Elevated walkways in the Savanna are used for giraffe feeding. These klutzy creatures are adorable as can be — especially when they're snacking on leaves from the palm of your hand.
The zoo is an international leader in Asian elephant conservation, and you'll get up-close-and-personal with these incredibly majestic beings. Also in the Asian Falls exhibit are Indian rhinoceroses, white tigers, and striped hyenas, among other animals endemic to Asia.

One of the neatest areas in the zoo is Texas Wild. This exhibit features animals native to the Lone Star State, as well as a replica Old West town with shops, restaurants, and other fun activities.
Admission is $16 for ages 13-24, and $12 for seniors and children 3-12. On Wednesdays, the price goes down to $8 for adults and $6 for seniors and children. Hours vary depending on the season. Visit the zoo’s website or Facebook page to learn more.
