Retirement means a whole lot of relaxation and some pretty big decisions. Where will you spend your retirement years? U.S. News & World Report recently released its list of the Best Places to Retire in the United States in 2021, and five Pennsylvania cities earned a spot on that list. Lancaster, in fact, came in at number five, sandwiched between Naples, Florida and Ocala, Florida.
Retirement often conjures images of the sandy beaches and golden sunshine of Florida. Quite a few Florida cities earn props as the best cities in which to retire in 2021, according to U.S. News & World Report.
Rounding out the top five, Lancaster, PA, earns recognition for its diversity. You’ll find rolling farmland, charming suburbs, and an abundance of things to do in the city of Lancaster itself. You get a little bit of everything.
Pittsburgh comes in a far second to Lancaster, landing as the 32nd best place to retire in the U.S. However, the long-time Steel City has gained popularity due to its transformation from a steel town to a hub of technology, medicine, and education.
Harrisburg ranks number 36 on the list for both the many attractions it offers and its proximity to so many other destinations, including Gettysburg, Hershey, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.
In addition to their individual charm, each city was graded on such criteria as housing affordability, healthcare costs, residents' happiness, and tax rates.
Lancaster landed at number five due, in part, to its overall rating of 7.4 out of 10. It scored an impressive 9.2 for healthcare and 6.2 for housing affordability.
Do you think any other Pennsylvania cities belong on the list of the top places to retire in 2021? If so, which ones? Let us know in the comments! Did you know that some of the best drivers in the United States are right here in PA? Yep, they live in Pittsburgh.
