Oregon offers trails for hikers of every level of experience, from easy-peasy boardwalk trails to difficult, high-elevation climbs. While we certainly love those simple forest strolls, sometimes it’s good to get the blood pumping and the muscles burning on a harder trail with a great payoff. The Tam McArthur Rim trail is moderately difficult, but it offers unparalleled views of Three Creek Lake, and the Three Sisters Wilderness.
The Tam McArthur trail was named after Lewis "Tam" McArthur, an Oregonian who served on the Oregon Geographic Board for more than 30 years. He was also the author of the book, "Oregon Geographic Names, which is currently offered in its seventh edition.
Make sure you have plenty of water with you, and wear some sturdy hiking shoes. You're welcome to bring you pup along on this hike!

Soon after starting along this pretty trail, you'll enter the Three Sisters Wilderness Area. Encompassing 286,708 acres, it's the second-largest wilderness area in Oregon, and it's full of gorgeous scenery, so make sure you have your camera with you.
Once you've soaked in all the scenery, return back down the trail. The hike is just over five miles, out and back.
As always, please remember to practice the principles of Leave No Trace. Pack out everything you pack in, stay on the trail, clean up after your dog, and be considerate of others. We love hiking in the beautify of Oregon’s wilderness, and want it to stay pristine for future generations.
