Now that the spookiest season of the year is here, it’s time to get out and see the most haunted spots in Iowa!
This short trip can be turned into a weekend getaway, or taken as a day trip.
Start off in Dubuque at the Hotel Julien. If you're turning this into a longer trip, spend a night here before hitting the road!
Not only is this one of the oldest hotels in the Hawkeye State, it's also one of the most haunted. If you can stick it out with a few spirits, you'll be treated to a luxurious stay.

Be sure to check out the Mathias Ham House, too, while you're exploring Iowa's oldest town.
This house is one of the most haunted spots in Iowa. It was built in 1856 and at least four members of the Ham family died in the home. One was murdered by an intruder in the middle of the night. To this day, visitors have reported strange sounds, lights flashing, and a lamplight moving through the house after dark.

Before you leave town, visit the Grand Opera House.
This theater was built in 1889, and over the years, hosted thousands of famous acts. At the same time, many of the performances behind the scenes have been a bit... paranormal. Ghostly voices, flashing lights, and odd happenings have been reported here for decades.
Next, head to Edinburgh Manor is always at the top of the list of the most haunted spots in Iowa. This eerie asylum is open for tours and overnight stays by appointment only - so plan ahead.
On your way to your final destination, take the time to stop in Columbus Junction and cross over Lover's Leap Bridge.
This swinging bridge is one of the most haunted spots in Iowa, and there are many tales as to how it got its name. Most think that a young woman, scorned by her love, jumped to her death from this very bridge.
Finally, end your trip with a visit to the Mason House Inn. Spend the night - if you dare!
