The lodge is the only one that remains from Idaho's early statehood days, during which the mining, timber, and tourism industries were blossoming. Simply put, this cozy hotel has been part of Priest Lake's history for 120 years, and it shows no signs of going anywhere.
The hotel was built by Walt Williams, an employee of the Great Northern Railroad. During the early 20th century, the majority of the hotel's guests were miners, "sourdoughs", and tourists looking to enjoy Priest Lake's beautiful waters. Among these guests was Nell Shipman, the famous silent film actress, producer, and filmmaker who made many movies in the area.
The hotel has seen a lot of changes during its lifetime. After World War II, the hotel went through several transformations into a boarding house, bar, and a restaurant and was given several different names. It wasn't until the early 1990s that the hotel was lovingly restored as the Old Northern Inn. Today, it's known simply as the Historic Northern Hotel.
