Land Between the Lakes is a stunning area of our state that offers outdoor adventure all year long. From the bison prairie to wetlands and more, it’s a destination in the Bluegrass that should be experienced at least once. And when you do visit, a walk around Hematite Lake is a must. Thankfully, this lakefront trail in Kentucky has been rejuvenated thanks to a new boardwalk along a part of the trail, making this scenic hike even more appealing and enjoyable.
Hematite Lake is arguably one of the most beautiful bodies of water in Kentucky.
Its unique plant life and landscape make a wonderful home for a variety of wildlife and the scenery is some of the most picturesque in the state. It's easy to see why this is a popular lakefront trail in Kentucky.
The Hematite Lake Trail is best known for its waterfront location, as well as these stepping stones that seasonally allow you to cross the water.
The boardwalk does not stretch throughout the entire trail, but it does help with many of the formerly muddy spots that made the path messy and difficult to pass through.
It winds through the woods, which almost feel like a rainforest in this section of the trail. Be sure to take your time and look for the abundant wildlife throughout the wetlands.
The portion of the trail that is not boardwalk may still get muddy from time to time, but of course that's just how nature works.
There are also picnic tables around the lake if you want to enjoy a meal during your visit. Just be sure to leave no trace and keep this area as pristine as when you arrived.
The area around the dam of the lake with the stepping stones changes throughout the seasons, but it's always an interesting spot to explore.
And with the completion of the beautiful new boardwalks, this lakefront trail is sure to continue to be a favorite for years to come.
The path around Hematite Lake is a lakefront trail in Kentucky that’s now even better than before. It’s always been a favorite hike within Land Between the Lakes, but now it’s even more enjoyable.
