Hidden away from view, the park is truly an oasis for nature lovers. It boasts about 70 acres of outstanding scenery and lush vegetation. Shaded by oak trees, sycamore trees, and maple trees, it makes for an excellent place to simply stroll and take in the view.
A short and easy 3-mile trail loops around the lower park and is a great way to explore the area. Additionally, a handful of secondary trails lead you away from the concrete channel and through the surrounding woodlands and riparian habitat. It seems like there's something beautiful around every corner!
In addition to its gorgeous landscape, the Lower Arroyo also has many recreational opportunities. Anglers will definitely want to check out the casting pond where the Pasadena Casting Club has taught fly fishing for over 50 years. The pond is open to the public on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The Archery Range is another unique feature in the Lower Arroyo. Established in 1935, the range is actually the oldest in the United States. It consists of more than 20 hay bale targets and is used by the Pasadena Roving Archers Club. Free archery lessons are offered to the public on Saturdays between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
If you take your time to explore this stunning park, you'll uncover other awesome features like the Bird Sanctuary, Memorial Grove, and La Casita del Arroyo, a charming garden facility that dates back to 1933. This park may be relatively small, but there sure is a whole lot to explore!
