It just wouldn’t be fall in South Carolina without a visit to a u-pick sunflower field. This year, we’re sending you to Mount Pleasant to a new field just opened at Boone Hall Farms on Long Point Road a few hundred feet from the entrance of Boone Hall Plantation. Go grab a five-gallon bucket at the hardware store so you’ll have plenty of room (and some water) to bring home your bounty and let’s go!
It would be difficult to pass a sunflower field anywhere in South Carolina without the cheerful blooms brightening your day.
Earlier in the summer, Boone Hall Farms opened a field on Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant next to their roadside market and the field was so popular, they decided to plant a fall field on Long Point Road.
If you've ever planted a sunflower or two in your own yard, then you can relate to the anticipation of watching it (or them) skyrocket from ground zero to a sky-high stem with a bud that gingerly opens a little more each day.
Interestingly, the disc in the center of the sunflower is comprised of hundreds of tiny blooming flowers. So the sunflower is actually flowers within a flower.
You'll pay for your freshly cut stems as you exit back to the parking area.
Boone Hall Farms has cranked up the agri-tourism fun to an all-new level this fall. Be sure to check out Boone Hall Fright Nights, too! For more about the sunflower field, follow the Facebook page for Boone Hall Farms!
(Note: the address below is for the entrance to Boone Hall Plantation. The sunflower field is another few hundred feet in the direction of Highway 17.)
