One of the best gardens in Iowa is also one of the most overlooked, and many Hawkeye State residents or tourists have never even heard of this little slice of paradise. The Thomas Jefferson Gardens are the gateway to Greene County, and every visit to the region should begin with a chance to stop and smell the roses.
These public gardens are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can visit the welcome center to learn more about the displays and botanicals from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

The heritage garden surrounds the statue of Thomas Jefferson and features plants that have been around for generations, and each one was donated by a Greene County resident.
The prairie garden recreates some of the region's history, with a display of 40 varieties and more than 700 individual plants.
