Buffalo Block Steakhouse Is A New Montana Restaurant In A Historic Building You Just Might Recognize
It’s no secret that we love a good steak here in Montana — and we also happen to appreciate our local history. So when Billings’ long-standing local eatery, The Rex, closed after more than a century, many a Montanan was saddened by the news. But after sitting vacant for two years, a local family breathed new life into the new space. And these days, Buffalo Block Steakhouse is a popular place.

The hotel, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, had quite a backstory and was a beloved local icon. When it closed for good a few years ago, a lot of people were upset.

But the sale failed to go through, and the building sat vacant for two years before the Larson family decided to open a new eatery there.

The space will feel familiar, but it has been renovated and revamped to suit its new name.

The menu also has plenty of other meaty options, like bone-in pork chops and roasted chicken.

Start your evening with oysters on the half shell or order a pan-seared salmon dinner.

Reservations are accepted — and if you're coming on a weekend, you'll want to make one.
