Here in Virginia, we’re downright spoiled when it comes to incredible dining options. That’s why we weren’t altogether surprised to hear that the South’s New Best Restaurant for 2020 is located in our very own backyard. When you visit this Richmond restaurant, you can look forward to a Chesapeake-inspired restaurant with rotating seafood specials and fine attention to detail. From small bites to fuller entrees, this must-try eatery has a little something for everyone. Let’s take a look:
Welcome to Alewife, located on East Marshall Street in the historic Church Hill neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia.
The restaurant has a relaxed, eclectic vibe and the menu is heavily influenced by mid-Atlantic seafood, specifically, what you'd find in the Chesapeake Bay.
According to Southern Living, who gave this restaurant the distinction of the South's Best New Restaurant for 2020, what sets this place apart is that it's unpretentious yet remains one of the area's most impressive restaurants.
Alewife is committed to supporting and honoring the seafood industry and local farmers by sourcing locally and letting the fresh ingredients speak for themselves.
Of course, it's not just seafood on the menu, but a fresh take on classic Southern comfort food. After all, what would a Southern restaurant be without fried chicken? Photographed below is crispy half chicken served with homemade potato salad.
One thing's for sure, you'll definitely want to try something from the dessert menu. Photographed below is the famous s'mores pie, which is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
