Imagining a Montana without mountains is simply impossible. After all, the word “Montana” is derived from the Spanish word Montaña, which means mountainous. There are at least 100 known mountain ranges and sub-ranges here in the Treasure State. And we might be biased, but we happen to think they’re the best in the world. Here’s why.

The Cabinets are nestled in the remote northwest corner of the state, overlooking the Kootenai Clark Fork River Valley. Montana is so vast that it's easy to discover hidden gems, even entire hidden mountain ranges.

We support the survival of our bighorn sheep, mountain goats, rodents, birds, and grizzly bears (as long as they stay away from us, of course). Montana has some of the most diverse wildlife in the country, and we want to protect them.
This is the view from the top of the treacherous Sacagawea Peak Trail, which lies in the Bridger Range. It's best left to the experienced hikers, but it's well worth the climb.
From our prehistoric past to our mining history, Montana's story simply wouldn't be the same without its mountain ranges. And if you've spotted a postcard of our beautiful state lately, you know that our mountains are always featured in photos, prominent and proud.
