There’s no denying that Alabama’s larger cities offer many things to see and do. However, the Yellowhammer State’s more rural towns offer plenty of things to see and do, too. Forkland, which was incorporated in 1974, is a tiny rural town in Greene County, Alabama. Even though it's small in size, this town offers a lot of charm.
One of Forkland's most charming structures is St. John's-In-The-Prairie (now known as St. John's Episcopal Church), which was erected in 1860. This Gothic-style church was originally located nine miles south of Greensboro, but it's been at its current location since 1878-79.
Another charming place in Forkland is Jim Bird's Farm. Established in 1993, this unique farm is a large field that's scattered with whimsical characters and/or sculptures made from a variety of materials such as hay, scrap metal, junk, and so much more.
...Tin Man, which is probably the most popular character of all. Don't forget your camera! You'll most certainly want your picture taken alongside this towering sculpture.
By the mid-1800s, cotton plantations were quite popular in the Forkland area. One of the most charming and well-known plantation homes, which was built between the years 1832-55, is the Rosemount Plantation.
Another charming plantation home that's located near the town of Forkland is the Thornhill Plantation, which was built in 1833. This Colonial-style home is a definite must-see!
