Many occurrences of mysterious disappearances have happened at this park, and they date all the way back to the times of Spanish settlers.
The first disappearance is said to have taken place in the 1500s, where a Spanish explorer named Coronado witnessed their friends vanish.

Legend has it that flashes of green light came from the dunes as three people disappeared. Natives of the land tried to warn Coronado, but they didn't listen.
