Sycamore Pool is a living pool located in the One Mile Recreation Area. Believe it or not, it was originally constructed in the late 1920s in order to contain Big Chico Creek as it flows through the rest of the park. It quickly became a popular swimming destination and has remained one ever since.
The fact that it's a living pool certainly makes Sycamore Pool unique. Although it may look like a conventional outdoor swimming pool, a living pool does not require the use of chlorine or other chemicals. The pool is still regularly cleaned but you're effectively soaking in the natural waters of Big Chico Creek.
It definitely makes a dreamy setting for a summer dip! Surrounded by the park's lush scenery, including clusters of trees and bright green lawns, it's easy to see why this spot is so popular during the summertime.
The pool opens every summer from Memorial Day through Labor Day. During this time, lifeguards are staffed at the pool Mondays through Wednesdays from noon to 5:00 p.m., and Fridays through Sundays from noon to 7:00 p.m.
This year, pool visitors are asked to take responsibility and abide by certain rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Be sure to practice physical distancing in and outside of the pool, don't share swim gear, and do not use the pool if you've experienced symptoms of illness.
