You have read the history books and have watched the old dramatized westerns, but have you ever wondered what it was really like to live in the Old West? Thanks to Colorado’s vibrant mining and railroad histories, there are plenty of places to both learn about and live out this iconic time, including the quirky Cripple Creek Jail Museum:
Located in - you guessed it! - Cripple Creek, the Cripple Creek Jail Museum is a one-of-a-kind attraction that pays homage to Colorado's famous Wild West history via a series of unique exhibits.
Also known as the Outlaws and Lawmen Jail Museum, this Cripple Creek gem is housed in the old Teller County Jail and features the same architecture and fixtures as it did at the turn of the 20th century.
As per the City of Cripple Creek, the Cripple Creek Jail Museum is the "hottest selfie spot West of the Mississippi," and offers guests a look at the shady side of life in an earlier era in this neck of the state.
How does the Museum accomplish this? They do so with their many displays, photographs, and exhibits, some of which even highlight real-life prisoners and lawmen!
In addition to the exhibits, the Cripple Creek Jail Museum is also home to the original cells, so guests can see for themselves what it was like to be a prisoner in the Old West.
