I write about pizza a lot because pizza is delicious and this is New Jersey. We’re lucky to have some of the best in the U.S. and you really can’t go wrong. It’s rare to find a bad pie in the Garden State. I’m not saying it’s impossible but I’ve only had one or two in the past few decades. Today, I want to feature a few fantastic places that I haven’t highlighted yet. I’m all about discovering and sharing new places with you! Get ready for a delicious pizza road trip…
Razza Pizza Artigianale - Jersey City
If you're looking for a perfectly charred crust and fresh, local ingredients, you'll love Razza Pizza Artigianale. The pies are so good, people cross state lines for them. Their goal is to serve the best pizza possible and they don't disappoint. Pizza isn't just food here, it's art, science, and a sublime flavor that will keep you coming back for more. With house-made bread, butter, and their own yeast culture, the tantalizing taste can't be replicated elsewhere.
Anthony's Pizzeria & Family Restaurant - Rockaway
This old school Italian spot offers both traditional and specialty pies that delight the taste buds. If you want to try something new, go for their stuffed pizza with sausage, pepperoni, ham, salami, provolone cheese, peppers, onions, and mushrooms. On a budget? Both Sicilian and classic cheese pies are under $2 a slice!
Dominick's Pizzeria & Restaurant - Newton
Dominick's is what I like to call a pizzeria plus. They're a pizzeria and restaurant offering catering AND a private party room. Home to some of the best pizza in Sussex County, they've been family owned and operated since the 1960s (according to their website). Another bonus - this BYOB spot now offers a gluten-free menu.
Alfonso's Family Trattoria & Gourmet Pizzeria - Somerville
This spot offers plenty more than pizza - it's a full service trattoria. They've got a sizable gluten-free menu, use delicious family recipes, and offer friendly service!
Pizzeria Mannino's - Pitman
Enjoy fresh whole pies made just for you. They use artisan low-gluten dough, aged for 72 hours for premium hydration. The pizza cooks at around 800-900 degrees for about 90 seconds in their brick oven imported directly from Italy.
Five Points Inn - Vineland
Five Points Inn got its start as a popular cheese steak spot but expanded to include pizza and traditional Italian eats. While the cheese steak is still spectacular, the Lockdown Pie (pictured) is a current favorite. It's topped with crispy bacon, french fries, meatballs, mushrooms, and pepper jack cheese, and finished off with ranch dressing. Yum!
Naples Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant - Little Egg Harbor
A short drive from popular summertime destinations including LBI and Atlantic City, this is New Jersey style pizza at its best. A local favorite since 1977, their bruschetta pizza is worth traveling for. Gluten-free options are available.
Denino's - Manahawkin, Brick, Aberdeen
Carlo Denino sold his first slice of pizza in Staten Island in 1951 and soon became a New York icon. Since then, his family has opened 3 New Jersey pizzerias bearing his name. All offer incredible, crispy thin crust pizza.
You can take this pizza loop as a road trip or pick and choose a few near you to try.
