The well known parks and attractions around Kentucky all deserve the attention of locals and visitors, but there are plenty of places that are just as wonderful, but are somehow overlooked. We recently asked our readers to name what they believed to be the most underrated spots around Kentucky and the one destination that was mentioned over and over again was Breaks Interstate Park. This underrated and unforgettable park in Kentucky absolutely deserves a first look, and then a second and a third, and you’ll want to add it to your travel bucket list in the Bluegrass.
Breaks Interstate Park is tucked into the eastern corner of Kentucky, right where it meets up with Virginia.
Perhaps it's the park's location that makes it lesser known and underrated, but it is still a very worthy destination in our beautiful state. The park is spread throughout both Kentucky and Virginia, so you'll find its features on both sides of the state line.
The Breaks is mostly known for its incredible views and a history that includes Daniel Boone and a gorge that was slowly carved out over time by the now Russell Fork River.
Many of the 25 miles of hiking trails throughout the park offer views like this, so be sure to bring along comfortable shoes. And as you can imagine, these views are jaw-dropping all year long.

If you'd like a thrilling adventure, try zip lining or even white water rafting at certain times of year. Other seasonal activities include horse back riding and rock climbing.
And if you prefer a slower pace, the Breaks offers that as well.
Daniel Boone crossed through the "break" in the gorge back in 1767 on his way to Kentucky and locals have loved the area ever since. If you didn't know our state was home to this unforgettable place, keep it in mind for a beautiful and relaxing adventure.
Breaks Interstate Park may be on the very edge of our state and even requires a trip across the state line into Virginia, but this area has to be seen to be believed.
