The volcano measures 3123 feet above sea level at its peak, which can easily be spotted from Route 220. It sits just 229 feet higher than the surrounding town of Monterey.

It's important to note that the landmark is on private land and therefore, it's not possible to climb to the top.
The only other volcano in Virginia — photographed below — is Mole Hill near Dayton. This volcano is also believed to be from the Eocene epoch of the Paleogene period.
