Alabama is filled with such a variety of attractions, including some of the nation’s finest museums. One museum in particular is the McWane Science Center, which is perfect for all ages. To learn all about this museum, take a look below.
The McWane Science Center, which opened for business in 1998, is located in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. It's one of the state's top museums.
Because of its fascinating exhibits, this award-winning, hands-on museum receives thousands of visitors each year from all over the state and beyond.
Speaking of fascinating exhibits, one of the science center's most popular exhibits is its Alabama Dinosaurs exhibit, which features actual fossils that have been found throughout the state.
Another popular exhibit among children and adults is the Shark and Ray Touch Tank. This exhibit allows visitors to touch sharks and rays. Swimming inside the tank are Bamboo Sharks, Epaulet Sharks, Cownose Rays, and Southern Rays.
A popular section of the McWane Science Center is its Itty Bitty Magic City, which is geared toward the museum's youngest visitors (kindergarten and younger). It offers four play areas, including Main Street, which looks and feels like a real city main street complete with storefronts, streetlights, a diner, and even a...
...vet clinic and fire station. Children thoroughly enjoy this section of the science center.
Without a doubt, one of the biggest draws to the McWane Science Center is its 280-seat IMAX Dome Theater, which happens to be Birmingham's only IMAX theater. Click here for ticket information and a list of showtimes.
