If you’re a Hoosier, you already know Indiana is a pretty awesome state to live in and definitely brag-worthy. We’re right in the middle of everything and can have the best of both worlds when it comes to country and city life. In case you need a few extra reasons to brag about our fine state, here’s a list of things that make being a Hoosier really great:
1. Indiana has some of the best limestone deposits in the U.S.
What does this mean? Oh, only that Indiana's limestone and mineral deposits helped build important buildings like the Empire State Building, the Pentagon, and the National Cathedral. No big deal...
2. We Have the Best Pool of Colleges
Next time someone asks you, "What's even in Indiana?", brag that we have a huge handful of the best universities in the country. With schools like Notre Dame, Purdue University, Butler University, Ball State, Ball State University, and Indiana University, Hoosiers have their pick of some of the best schools in the U.S.
3. Our Traffic Jams are Minor
Sure, we might get stuck for a half hour on 465 near Indy at rush hour, but compared to the several hours worth of rush hour traffic in other states, driving in Indiana is a breeze.
4. The Indy 500
This ultimate racing event takes place every year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and it's a huge deal to us Hoosiers (not to mention a good time!).
5. Craft Beer
Craft beer might be a big deal all across the country, but in Indiana, it's sometimes the only beer you can get. There are hundreds of local breweries spread out across this fine state, proving that we take our craft beer very seriously.
6. Craft Foods
Aside from just beer, Indiana is known for more than just fried foods. There is a huge selection of craft food restaurants, from craft burgers, craft pizzas, and craft sandwiches/salads to craft desserts and appetizers. The food here is always on point and brag-worthy.
7. We Keep Christmas Alive
Every year, thousands of letters to Santa are delivered to Santa Claus, Indiana...and every single letter gets a reply, giving Hoosiers some serious bragging rights. We're pretty proud of the Christmas spirit in our state.
8. Parks and Recreation was Based in Indiana
Yes, this show features a lot of Indiana stereotypes and generalizations, but we're all pretty proud Amy Poehler wanted this show to be based in Indiana. The cast even filmed with the Colts, ate at St. Elmo's, and visited a lot of cool Indiana sites while filming.
9. Garfield was Based Here
That's right, the popular comic strip and later TV series was originally based in Indiana. In fact, Garfield's creator, Jim Davis, was also from Indiana.
10. Michael Jackson
The entire Jackson 5, in fact, as well as Janet Jackson, hail from Gary, Indiana. You're welcome world.
11. The Coca Cola Bottle
Many people aren't aware that the Coca Cola bottle design came from Root Glass Works in Terre Haute, Indiana. Since then, Coca Cola has continued bottle production in Terre Haute.
12. Our Location
We have Indianapolis in the heart of our sate, making city getaways a breeze for all residents. Then, just beyond our borders are Chicago, Cincinnati, Columbus, Louisville, Toledo, Milwaukee, Detroit, and St. Louis (to name a few).
Living in Indiana is definitely brag-worthy. What Hoosier things do you love to brag about most?
