Thanks to a company called Anytime Tours, you can explore Sacramento's fascinating history anytime and anywhere. They boast two virtual tours on their website and app, at the Old City Cemetery and Old Sacramento Waterfront.
For now, we'll be focusing on the Old Sac tour, although we highly recommend checking out the Old City Cemetery as well! Nothing really compares to seeing Old Sac's 53 historic buildings with your own eyes, but this self-guided virtual tour is the next best thing.
Considered the city's first commercial district, this region of Sacramento is where the city really sprang to life. Comprised of 28 acres, the district is home to dozens of historic buildings, businesses, and fascinating stories.
Once you click on the Old Sac virtual tour, you'll be led to a page where you can click through to different iconic destinations in the district. You can either jump around from site to site or visit each "stop" sequentially.
At each "stop", you'll be provided with a brief video that introduces the destination and what role it played in Sacramento's history. It almost feels like a real walking tour—minus all the walking!
Among some of the buildings you'll visit on this virtual tour are the Eureka Baths, Hotel de France, Booth Building, Pacific Stables, and Union Hotel. This virtual experience is no replacement for seeing the real buildings up close, but it's still bound to inspire you to actually see this historic district in person and learn even more about it.
Attracting over five million visitors annually, the Old Sacramento historic district is definitely a destination worth discovering. You may not be able to physically visit it right now, but you can still dive into this district's fascinating history with a virtual tour from Anytime Tours.
What do you think? Isn’t it amazing you can take an entire virtual tour of this fascinating historic park? Check out another great virtual experience in NorCal when you read about the free livestreams of sharks, jellyfish, and more at Monterey Bay Aquarium.
